About Shree Bhavani Mata

Goddess Bhavani—an avatar of Maa Durga—is revered across India, particularly as the Kuldevi (patron deity) of Maharashtra, the Maratha realm, and millions of devotees worldwide. The name Bhavani translates to "giver of existence" or "source of life."

  • Swaroop (Form): Mata Bhavani is depicted as Ashtabhuja (eight-armed), seated upon a lion, wielding sacred weapons gifted by the gods to destroy the buffalo-demon Mahishasura. Her countenance blends ferocious valor against adharma with maternal tenderness for her devotees.

  • Historical Significance: Mata Bhavani is revered as the guiding deity of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who attributed his establishment of Hindavi Swarajya to the divine grace and blessings of the Goddess.

  • Spiritual Essence: She embodies courage, righteousness, protection, and fertility. Devotees visit to seek courage in hardship, prosperity for family, and spiritual purification.
